美研究:大學四年 4成生學識無長進更新日期:2011/01/19 22:15台灣在前幾年,因為7分就可以上大學，引發各界對大學教育品質的探討。事實上在美國，大學教育也出現很大的問題，因為學費不斷飆漲，超出很多父母能負擔的程度，但學習品質卻不如預期，最近還有一項研究指出,將近四成的大學生在學校唸了四年,學業表現卻一點都沒有進步。

教育越來越多元，但美國大學生展現出的學習成就，卻是令人憂心。最新研究指出，45%的大學生，唸完大二時，學業成就跟高中畢業時一樣。另外36%的大學畢業生，唸完四年大學， 沒有學到任何東西，學識還是停留在高中畢業階段。

研究報告指出，美國大學教授太過專注在自己的研究上，並沒有付出太多力氣在教學上，至於學生則是把大學當成是交朋友的社交場合。統計數字顯示，美國大學生一天平均只花四小時在課業上，但有多達14小時的時間，花在社交生活跟打工上。

上學期美國有一半的大學生選修的科目，沒半科需要寫超過20頁的作業。另外三分之一的學生選的課，每星期需要閱讀的材料，不超過40頁。

目前美國大學每學期的學費，平均超過27000美元，大約新台幣78萬，那些為了籌措學費傷透腦筋的家長，在知道大學教育對子女的學識提升，幫助不大之後，心裏恐怕是五味雜陳。

Tsai ‘Regrets’ Persimmon Confusion蔡英文對柿子事件致歉

On November 29th, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen said she regretted any possible confusion over a mismatched persimmons photo in a calendar that has triggered cross-party fire.
As a matter of fact, we seldom find that the price of persimmon is only NT$2 per catty (600 grams) in the market. There are three kinds of persimmons. There are sweet persimmon, red persimmon and water persimmon. The sweet one is the most expensive. We usually can buy it in the traditional market. Three large sweet persimmons cost about NT$100. However, the photo in DDP propaganda showed the price of NT$ 2 per catty. The DDP claim the photo was merely a mismatch with the listed price: a different variety of persimmons that is only worth NT$2 per catty now.
Obviously, the DDP was wrong. Tsai Ing-wen is just like water spinach(空心菜) . She always tells us the principles everyone knows. She was a famous professor. She sounds good. However, the “Taiwan Consensus” that Tsai Ing-wen embraces was only a blank check. Parts of her political views were seriously lack of feasibility, adaptability and acceptability.
I think that the DDP’s propaganda caused great confusion about true market price. It has been a disaster for many farmers. Some people are thinking that the price of persimmons is too high and have stopped purchasing persimmons. Now a lot of persimmons are unmarketable. I think that the DDP are using the farmers as an elective tool. However, this time, the DDP met a setback. As an old Chinese proverb goes, “To often walk in the dark road, sooner or later, you will meet ghost.” Now Taiwanese farmers have the opportunity to know the character of the DDP.
The previous wave “3 small pigs “, the DPP may feel very good. At the beginning of last month, the DDP said Ma Ying-jeou met with a business leader known in the gambling industry. Mr. Chen Inn-Ju(陳盈助),He is a known leader of mofia in Taiwan. Mofia is often referred to as black gold in our society. But as a matter of fact, he donated a lot of money to the DDP political elites during the local election activities and a lot of poor people were assisted when they needed. He has also helped the local government with money to assist weak political groups. His gambling enterprises have been opened in the Philippines and Macao, but not in Taiwan. He has earned a lot of money in foreign countries for many years. The DDP politicians and a lot of civilian in JA-I County consider him a very good guy, not a criminal. Ironically, we say “black gold has become good. Mr. Chen Inn-Ju(陳盈助) has become an elective tool of the DDP. No wonder, many poor people and weak groups have complained about the Democratic Progressive Party.
The recent “persimmon storm" has intensified. The malicious propaganda campaign was clearly to distort the fruit market and seriously damaged the interests of farmers and their feelings. However, the DPP did not admit the error strongly. This is the reason why most farmers in Taiwan are not sided (support) with the DDP. Ma’s poll numbers are higher than Tsai by a thin margin, only 8%, according to the China Time report yesterday. I still think the candidate who can well handle economic issues, the relationship across the Taiwan Strait and racial integration, will turn the corner to win the election.
This morning, I saw on TVBS, Tsai Ing-wen eventually admitted her party’s fruit propaganda was wrong. She apologized to the farmers. However, the farmers have already
suffered the damages. Farmers will use their votes in hand to take back axiom and justice.

Special Superstitions 談迷信與禁忌

Are there any special taboos in your country? The way I mean are there things I should be careful about saying or doing. I do not like to offend anyone. I read a book introducing the taboos of western countries, the taboos are as follows :
1. Opening an umbrella indoors.
2. Walking under a ladder.
3. Breaking a mirror.
4. A black cat is on your path.
5. The number 13 or black Friday.
Would you please to tell me what the implications for these things are? In Taiwan or Mainland China, we have some taboos, such as,
1. Number 4
It sounds like Chinese word 死(syy) (It means death). In our navy, we do not have had any ship which ship’s number is four or the sum of ship’s number is four since 1954. Because we had a destroyer escort which ship’s number was 22. Two plus two is equal to 4. It was attacked by a PLA Navy’s ship in 1954. This ship finally sank in the Taiwan Strait. Most of the crew died during this battle. 2. In the Ghost Month, getting married is unlucky.
3. In the period of Chinese Lunar New Year, we always avoid putting the head of a chicken toward any subordinate during the year-end banquet(尾牙). It implicates he will be fired very soon.
4. Don’t give any umbrella or handkerchief as a present to any friend. It implicates that you will have no opportunity to meet again.
5. Don’t give a clock to your friends as a gift. The Chinese pronunciation of clock is 鐘(jong). It sounds like another Chinese word 終(jong) (It means death).
All of these special taboos should be respected and so not to offend people .

Yesterday, I read an email with a beautiful power point a friend of mine sent to me. I think this email is meaningful for us. I would like to translate it into English and share it with you.
In an elementary school, there was a group of students asked by their teacher to think about this question. ”What are the Seven Wonders of the World in your heart? “ The students had five minutes to answer the question. Most students answered as follows:
1. The Grand Canyon (美國大峽谷)
2. The Taj Mahal (印度的泰姬陵)
3. The Egyptian pyramids(埃及的金字塔)
4. The Great Wall of China(中國的萬里長城)
5. The Panama Canal(巴拿馬運河)
6. Peter’s Basilica in Rome( 羅馬大教堂)
7. The America’s Empire State Building( 美國帝國大廈)
When the time was up, the teacher began to collect the answer sheets, but one of girl students could not finish the answers in time.
The teacher said, “May I help you?” The little girl said “Teacher, in my mind, there are many wonders in the world. Still, I can’t decide, what are the 7 Wonders of The World.”

The teacher said,” Do not worry about it; just write down what you thought over. It is ok! I can help you finish.” The little girl hesitated to answer the question. She said,” I think that the Seven Wonders of the World is as follows:
1. To see. We can see all the beautiful and good things in the world.
2. To hear. We can hear the happy songs and the sound of birds and insects.
3. To touch
We can touch the new, interesting and things we are curious about or strange things.
4. To taste
We can taste delicious foods.
5. To laugh loudly
We can laugh loudly when we are happy or like people or things.
6. To feel
We can feel the deep concerns and regards from our relatives and good friends.
7. To love and to be loved
We can love what we like and be loved by people we like and love. After the little girl finished her report, all students in the class fell suddenly silent. In our life, we often ignore that the simplest and most normal things are our wonders. If we did not have these 7 life wonders (1.To see 2.To hear 3.To touch 4.To taste 5.To laugh loudly 6.To feel 7.To love and to be loved), our life would not be wonderful again. We do not need too much, to hold on to these wonders is simply happiness. May God bless you and you have happiness forever.

今天是宋秉修先生與汪宜君小姐與結婚大典，男方主婚人宋仁元是海軍官校58年班畢業，曾派赴美國華府工作多年，是位優秀的海軍軍官，美國東南大學企管碩士畢業，返國後，曾任海軍後勤司令部上校副參謀長，退役之後，協助太太謝淑美女士經營統一超商，玫瑰園咖啡館以及流行服飾店，可說事業有成，目前已經退休，過著含飴弄孫，遊山玩水，怡然自得的休閒生活。女方主婚人汪克成是陸軍官校畢業，是一位優秀的陸軍軍官，退役後，自己開工廠，女方媽媽劉裕國女士是國中老師，退休之後，幫忙先生為事業打拼，夫唱婦隨，事業也非常有成就。宋仁元是我是海軍官校58年班同學，我是58年班同學會會長，也是高雄市中央軍校校友會副理事長，今天有機會為陸軍官校與海軍官校校友的後代福證，陸軍官校與海軍官校畢業生都是黃埔校友，黃埔校友一家親，今天宋汪兩家聯姻，可以說是親上加親。在座的58年班同學，來自全台各地，都曾參加過宋仁元伉儷的結婚大典，30多年後，我們很高興見證了宋家有子成家立業，也非常高興來到漢來大飯店為新人祝福。
新郎宋秉修先生是長榮大學會計系畢業，英國Kent大學畢業。俗語說：有其父必有其子，秉修先生也是企管碩士，現於外商Flextronics-偉創力公司任職專案經理，經驗非常豐富。新娘汪宜君小姐輔仁大學英文系畢業，畢業後，遠赴瑞士Cesar Ritz大學進修，以優異成績獲得雙碩士學位，現於PEgatron-和碩聯合科技公司擔任業務副理。宜君小姐麗質天生，秀外慧中，學有所長。儘管兩人都在國外求學，但是姻緣前生定。兩人回國以後，都曾在亞洲頂尖五十強企業台達電任職，因工作機會認識，經過三年愛情長跑，百年修得共枕眠，互訂終身。結婚是人生的另一個起點，除了要用感恩的心，感謝父母養育之恩外，更要同心協力攜手創造美滿的家庭，要記住雙方父母與長輩的恩典、軍人世家本色是勤儉持家、相敬如賓，要對人感恩，要對己知足，這樣才會有快樂，有快樂才會有幸福。家是溫暖的港灣，家不是講理的地方。有句話說「家和萬事興」、「修身齊家治國平天下」「忍片刻風平浪靜」。人非聖賢，也都有缺點，人生三十而立，婚前也許在愛情的支撐下，看到的都是雙方優點，但結婚以後，朝夕相處，由於從小價值觀念與習慣領域的不同，差異是必然的，要想改變夫妻雙方各自的習慣領域是不容易的，一定要相互包容，相互勉勵，有容乃大，唯有這樣，才能長長久久。

光陰似箭，一年容易，又過了一年。這一年紛紛擾擾，歐債危機，打亂了世界金融，展望明年情勢，國內經濟滑坡、國際經濟風暴方興未艾、TPP（跨太平洋夥伴協議）正將形成，倘若再因撕毀「九二共識」而使兩岸關係發生曲折斷裂，兩會關閉、ECFA生變，台灣內外必將出現分崩離析的大災禍，還妄言什麼「十年政綱」？還奢談什麼Taiwan Next？站在關鍵時刻，你我都要站出來捍衛自己的老本與福祉，不要讓我們的未來變薄。

人生好像一場戲，因為有緣才相聚。人生換布景，輪迴換舞台，主角與配角，地點不同輪迴演。四十餘載同窗緣，美好回憶常相隨。相聚是緣要珍惜，再聚是福平安樂。年過六旬非青壯，老本、老友、老伴是核心，體力精神順自然。做事從容不要急，一家安康是福氣，吃苦享樂在一起，自然萬事都如意。平淡也好、富貴也好，只要健康快樂就好；兒孫自有兒孫福，人生瑣事由他去。

9月20-21日辦理58阿里山森林遊樂區快樂逍遙遊，南北同學與大嫂們計有50人參加，同學巫中榮伉儷於阿里山閣大飯店做東邀宴大夥及黃台生同學美酒贊助饗宴。海峽兩岸同胞阿里山閣大飯店不期而遇，美酒美人酒酣到極點，兩岸同胞在張漢明同學指揮下，齊聲歡樂高唱阿里山等山歌，58南區合唱團在團長黃正雲領軍下幾乎都到了，獻唱回憶等扣人心弦經典名曲，這一夜，回到年青時，有人難得醉了。黃正雲同學11月初至中旬，單車環島18天，挑戰65歲體力，圓滿成功，寶刀未老，可喜可賀。周承宗同學躺臥病床十餘載，11月受肺炎感染雖痊癒，如今以氣切維持呼吸治療，現住台中忠港(呼吸治療專門)醫院，讓我們一起為承宗兄平安祈福！感謝汪惟鴻同學捐款周承宗同學3000元，將併春節58年班同學會春節慰問金3000元共計6000元，寄發承宗兄妹妹。
